I've dedicated my career to helping Personal Trainers be at their best so they can give their best. Personal Trainers are the front-line experts who support others in making healthier choices and I'm the one who creates supports for them.


My life straddles two worlds, the world of the fitness industry, and the world of academia. 


Working in Academia

Teaching at Vancouver Island University (VIU) - I am a Professor of Kinesiology teaching in the following areas:

  • KIN 132 - Fitness and Conditioning

  • KIN 232 - Exercise Prescription 

  • KIN 253 - Intro to Nutrition 

Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Victoria (UVic) - I am studying under the mentorship of Dr. Lara Lauzon and Dr. John Meldrum where I am looking at how to best support Personal Trainers with their own wellness. 

Working in Industry

Staying involved with what's going on in the Personal Training Industry is critical for me. It lets me know where the challenges are and it allows me to be a part of creating industry-level solutions. 

The Resilient Trainer Collective (RTC) is my incorporated business, where I provide education, support, and mentorship for Personal Trainers. I do this through group programs, online education, one-on-one life coaching, and our membership community.

The Private Training Institutes Branch (PTIB)—I am a Subject Matter Expert for this branch of the Province of British Columbia. My role is to help conduct Program Evaluations for Personal Training Schools looking to obtain/maintain their PTIB designation. This evaluation aims to ensure that the school is meeting the requirements of the Private Training Act and associated regulations.

Canadian Fitness Education Services (CFES) - I am a co-lead, with Brian Justin, on combining the existing Weight Training and Personal Training certification programs into one Comprehensive Personal Training program. We have just finished combining the manuals and are developing a hybrid course to deliver this program.

Exercise Instruction - I volunteer once a week with a Parkinson's Exercise group. Seeing these individuals improve their strength, their balance and their stability is exceptionally rewarding. 

Workshops - I deliver various workshops at conferences and for in-service training for private businesses and municipalities.
